If you are a fan of historical fiction series like Viking and wondering what to watch after it? Here’s good news for you. There are plenty of other solid character-driven series that are action-oriented and have a similar element to Viking.

I have compiled a list of shows similar to Viking having the same adventure, action, turmoil and triumph. So let’s have a look.

Rome (2005-2007)

Rome is an American - Britain - Italian historical drama series covering the last days of Roman Republic before it transitions to an autocratic empire in the first century B.C. Series depicts the tail end of the republic where infighting and rivalries among political figures are growing.

Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus are leading the cast along with other strong characters. The script is intelligently written with some obscenity, violence and reality. At the same time writer does not try to hide the ugly side of an otherwise glorious Roman republic.

Rome draws an honest picture of degeneracy and evilness in the best possible manner where two prominent figure struggle to gain power and this ultimately results in a deadly crash.

Game of Thrones (2011-2019)

Game of throne is another American fantasy drama series that is based on the novels of George R.R. Martin. To get control over the mythical land and expand their influence nine noble families came against each other. Which result in chaos, corruption, despair and total collapse.

This series is created by D.B Weiss and David Benioff. Though it is not historically accurate and far from real life authenticity but with a right mix of humour, violence, political rivalries and medieval fights, Game of Thrones has proved itself one of the best show of this era like Viking

From the past one decade Game of throne has captured the imagination of masses. So if you are looking for an alternative of “Viking”. With the perfect combination of historical-style drama and fantasy, Game of throne can be a great choice.

Marco Polo (2014-2016)

Marco Polo is an American drama web series inspired by a Venetian adventurer and merchant Marco polo who get entangled into the politics and power struggle of Mongol Empire. This Series focuses on the early years of Marco polo which he spent in the court of “Kublai Khan” the Mongol emperor.

This show didn’t last long and unfortunately came to the end very soon but in its short tenure, it still proved to unique and enthralling. Both the seasons were quite compelling. Everything from directing to acting is done by perfection. This show it has perfectly pictured the 13th-century china

Though the series might not be historically accurate in term of Dates and events but added fictions twists and flair make this show similar to Viking. If you want to enjoy a rare peek of rich Asian history with Amazing Cinematography, in-depth characters and near to real fight scenes. Marco polo is for you.

The Last Kingdom (2015- now)

The last kingdom is a British historical fiction that is adopted from Bernard Cornwell’s series of Books, The Saxon Stories. The story revolves around Uttered, who raised as one of the pagans in the slavery of Viking after being abducted. With time, things get complicated and ultimately he came to fight up against people who raised him.

With pretty accurate facts and events, the last kingdom is one of the few series that has most of the facts correct. I am not sure if its matter, but if you are looking for accurate historical series this is not gonna disappoint you.

With an English centered approach, this series is full of action, drama and mysteries. Gripping plot, deeply drawn characters, sequences and battles are making “The Last Kingdom” very much close to Viking. You can compare this to Viking and it can prove to be a good alternative.
